DOE Finds SRS Waste Incinerator Poses No Risk
The Department of Energy announced a finding of no significant impact for the Consolidated Incineration Facility at the Savannah River Site. The 31 1988 project will begin construction after a federal agreement and is slated to start operating in 1995. It will burn low level radioactive, hazardous, and mixed wastes to reduce waste volumes at SRS by about 90 percent. The facility will be located near the center of the 300 square mile site adjacent to the H Area.
