Texas corrections officials announced a crackdown on holiday furloughs for violent offenders, limiting seven day releases to 45 inmates versus 160 last year. Alcohol Program Awarded Statewide Honor Again

The Offender-Based Intervention program at the Aiken Center for Alcohol and Drug Services was named the best statewide OBI program for the second time since 1987. Executive director Terrance D. Brown credits forced intervention and coordination with courts, probation, and the Solicitor’s Office for success. The program targets offenders over 17, averages ages 25 to 40, and requires a minimum of eight counseling sessions plus possible AA meetings, with a $225 cost and options for morning or evening appointments.
