Two Die In Salley House Fire
A fire at a double wide trailer on 117 Hoss Lane in Salley claimed two lives. Responders from Salley Couchton and Wagener battled the blaze reported at 9 24 a m. Coroner Tim Carlton said bodies found near the entrance will be identified by dental records after pathology review. Smoke inhalation suspected as the cause along with severe thermal injuries. Names withheld pending identification and next of kin notification. Arson unit investigating the fire’s cause.

Carter suspect in earlier call for shots fired
Twenty minutes before a traffic stop turned fatal for Aiken Public Safety officer Scotty Richardson, Stephen Carter was identified as a suspect in a separate shots-fired call on Teague Street. Police say Carter, driving a black Chevy Impala, fired at two teens returning from the Smith-Hazel Recreation Center as Griffin investigated Tuesday night.

Carter was wounded and captured after exchanges with multiple officers. SLED has warrants for murder and attempted murder. If convicted Carter faces the death penalty.
