Stephen Morrell Carter 19 of 1024 Sunny Ave Aiken faces murder charges for fatally shooting Aiken Public Safety Officer Scott Richardson 33 and attempting to kill Officer Travis Griffin 28 during a Tuesday shootout near Brandt Court. Richardson died Wednesday at Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center Griffin survived. The suspect will be booked in Richmond County Jail after extradition.
The Richardson family thanks the Aiken community and ADPS for support after Scotty Richards’ death. They credit ADPS and Georgia Health Sciences University trauma team for care. The family grieves privately for Scotty, husband to Amelyn and father of Zander Chase and Maddox.
Monetary gifts and toy donations are being collected to assist the Richardson family, with collection efforts organized to provide support for the 2A household. The drive aims to ease needs and support the family during a difficult time.
Stephen Morrell Carter, 19, of 1024 Sunny Ave in Aiken, is reported as a patient at Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center for injuries described as murder and attempted murder. Previous records show armed robbery arrest in 2009, juvenile court remand, and later charges including pistol possession and unlawful carrying.
Bridgestone Americas plans a 1.2 billion expansion in Graniteville, adding 740000 square feet to the existing plant and constructing a 1.5 million square foot off road tire plant. The project, creating about 850 jobs, marks the largest single capital investment in the area alongside new openings from Cracker Barrel Family Y The Fresh Market and Sam's Club in Aiken County.
