Penny drive powers gifts for Oakwood Windsor students
Oakwood Windsor Elementary and families raised over 1500 dollars to help classmates in need this Christmas. Principal Dr. Alice Sheehan noted the effort as remarkable for a small school and said about 70 percent of children qualify for free or reduced lunch. Guidance counselor Sissy Bowman coordinated gift wrapping and a drive for clothes shoes and toys, with families asked to provide sizes and suggestions. Some parents donated cash or adopted children directly, and 30 turkeys were distributed along with aid for a family burned out. The drive drew increased support, with Sheehan attributing part of the surge to heightened community care after Sept 11.
