State tied for high drunk driving death rate
National study shows South Carolina, Louisiana and Montana share the top drunken driving fatality rate across the nation. Aiken County Coroner Sue Townsend calls the numbers disappointing and urges changes, noting 17 of 33 local traffic deaths this year involved alcohol or drugs. Judge returns dogs to owner under microchip order

In York Pennsylvania two white men convicted in the 1969 murder of Lillie Belle Allen, a 27 year old Black visitor, were sentenced to prison. Robert Messersmith received nine to nineteen years. Gregory Neff was sentenced to four and a half to ten years.
