The statement from publicist Anna Loynes and a note on his site said he passed at 6:00 a.m. with wife Jean by his side. Carson dies at 69 in Indianapolis after lung cancer and long health struggles. She rose from poverty to become the first Black and first woman in Congress for Indiana. She championed children and women’s rights and opposed the Iraq War while representing Indianapolis since 1996.
