Sheriff Eyes Old Detention Center for New Offices
Aiken County Sheriff Mike Hunt urged the Judicial and Public Safety Committee to repurpose the vacant Hampton Avenue detention center for sheriff divisions. He said repainting and minor repairs would fit his budget and noted plans for records, forensics, and narcotics spaces plus a weatherproof portico for crime scene vehicles. The sheriff criticized current trailer housing as unsafe and unseemly. County Administrator Clay Killian said the county may also buy the adjacent former SCE&G building to support emergency services.
