Two year old Adeline Ginn sat on her mother Sarah's lap as Mrs Claus read Christmas stories at Odell Weeks Recreation Center. The event, now in its second year, was started by Ginger Ingram who also helps with a Christmas craft show and year round readings for children.

Small Ridge Spring Monetta High Meets All AYP Targets
Nine of 197 South Carolina high schools met 100 percent of school based accountability results under No Child Left Behind. Ridge Spring Monetta High School achieved this by meeting five objectives while others had 13 to 21. The test used was a trial, delaying statewide validation.

SeniorNet needs more volunteers in Aiken area
SeniorNet coordinator Bill Hayes says senior learners face vision, hearing, and dexterity challenges but the program at USC Aiken lab teaches at seniors pace. Jim Ward, a former Savannah River Site engineer now involved with SeniorNet, notes the value of seniors sharing knowledge. The Aiken chapter, four years old, has served over 1300 students with core volunteers from 1999 still in place though age and illness reduce numbers. Recruitment of recent retirees as coaches is underway with hopes of sustaining instructors long term and appealing to younger helpers.
