Massachusetts student dies in I 20 wreck near Martintown

Emory University student Charles C. White, 19, of New Bedford Mass died in a one car crash on Interstate 20 near the Martintown Road exit. His roommate Matt Taylor 19 of Maryland was injured with a dislocated shoulder and hospitalized in Augusta. Coroner Sue Townsend said White may have fallen asleep at the wheel with no alcohol detected.

Aiken PD Disbands Horse Patrol Over Liability

Aiken Department of Public Safety confirms it ended its horse patrols this month citing liability concerns. Chief Pete Frommer notes four riders and four trained horses were affected and that owners and donors had provided animals kept off site with training standards remaining a factor.

Hundreds mourn tragedy in Graniteville church service

In Graniteville hundreds gathered Thursday at Christian Heritage Congregational Holiness Church to say goodbye to Andy and Kimberly Medlock. The service followed a weekend murder in Warrenville in which the father killed himself and his daughter, leaving Debra Medlock and Heather. The crowd filled the church and later Graniteville Cemetery as friends and Midland Valley High peers honored the victims.

DOE awards WSRC performance fees for period. improvements noted

The Department of Energy reported WSRC earned 19.9 million of 24.8 million possible performance fees for April to September. DOE-SRS Manager Greg Rudy praised high marks in high level waste, defense, tri tium work and environmental restoration while citing failures in FB-Line containment and procedural compliance.

USCA December graduates celebrate with speaker Cubbedge

The University of South Carolina Aiken marked December graduation with Frankie Holley Cubbedge as main speaker. The Graniteville native retires after 28 years at USCA and the Gregg Gran itville Library. She highlighted being a first generation college graduate and shared hopes for graduates' future paths including graduate school family time and new careers.
