FBI agent transition to bank vice president role reported with details on career shift. Highlights include prior bureau assignments and the new leadership responsibilities within the financial institution.
Rita Jenrette former wife of Abscam convict John Jenrette sits for a Playboy nude layout confirmed by a hairdresser while Jenrette herself declines to comment. The State reports the session occurred at Playboy West Coast studios with praise for her looks comparing her to Marilyn Monroe.
Jackson Georgia. John Eldon Smith was executed in the state electric chair for the 1974 murders of his wife’s former husband and that man’s wife. The 53 year old former insurance salesman was declared dead after 2 000 volts of electricity passed through his body. He spoke a Bible verse as he entered the chair and declined a last meal and witnesses. The execution made him the 11th in the United States since 1976 and the third in 16 days.
U S Embassy in Kuwait was warned a month in advance by the CIA of a possible terrorist attack but safeguards were deemed insufficient. The Kuwait bombing killed six, with another death in related assaults. Warnings to Beirut Marines and other embassies in Cairo and Riyadh are cited, with Iran suspected though unproven. A group named Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility, linked to Lebanon and the Iranian revolution. State officials warned of possible retaliation in Lebanon’s Baalbek region if Iran-linked involvement is confirmed.
The Aiken Department of Public Safety will provide transportation from this weekend through New Year’s Day to prevent drunk driving. Chief J. Carroll Busbee urged safety with a 24 hour dispatcher on duty and asked residents to call the station if they need a ride home after celebrations.

Local fund drives by the Salvation Army Valley Empty Stocking Fund and Aiken Jaycees close soon. Valley Empty Stocking Fund raised over 12 000 last year helping more than 200 families. Donations may be mailed to three area boxes and kettles. Salvation Army aims for 33 000 with mail appeals and kettle collections for food checks toys and year round programs. Jaycees run a shopping tour at Wal Mart for needy children with a Friday deadline.
