South Carolina GOP funding unclear for early presidential primary
South Carolina election officials race to fund the January 21 first in the South presidential primary as state money shortfalls surface. The Election Commission says it may operate in the red after the GOP pays only 180000 in filing fees. the primary could cost up to 1.5 million with counties suing over costs and the Supreme Court ruling assigning expenses to state and counties. The Budget Oversight Board could allow a deficit, but Governor Haley has opposed such practice.
