Mason L. Cummings, 38, arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor after a former student alleged inappropriate contact beginning when she was 13 and spanning 1999 to 2007 while he taught at Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary-Middle School. He later led Ridge Spring-Monetta High School.

Simpkins murder charge dropped but burglary yields prison
Aiken County charged man Freddie Lee Simpkins, 22, had murder counts dismissed due to lack of evidence after pleading guilty to two burglaries. He received three years in prison under the Youthful Offender Act for a July 2010 second degree burglary and a five year probation for a November 8 burglary, to run consecutively. The murder case against him remains unrelated and closed for now.

Aiken County Approves EMS Complex at Former Coca Cola Plant
The Aiken County Council discussed a 2.5 million dollar plan to convert the former Coca Cola bottling site into an EMS headquarters and add a 1,600 square foot substation with an ambulance bay. The full project cost, including warehouse renovations and equipment storage, was reviewed and the council authorized the construction manager to issue bids.
