A three car collision on Whiskey Road near the Aiken Mall sent three women to area hospitals Wednesday afternoon. Betty McConnell 54 of Barnwell drove a 1997 Pontiac that turned left into the mall entrance and was struck on the passenger side by Regina Liquois 38 of Aiken in a southbound Dodge Minivan. Liquois and her two sons Ian Hawks 17 and Ray Liquois 2 wore seat belts and were not injured. McConnell and passengers Sandra Stafford 54 of Lodge and Joan Brewer 58 of Allendale were injured. Stafford was treated at MCG and released, while McConnell and Brewer were taken to area hospitals. Fire and rescue freed two occupants with the jaws of life.
Wade Brodie notes a land opportunity as Aiken Preparatory School plans to move from Hitchcock Parkway in fall 2002. The Aiken Corporation negotiates rights to develop the vacated property, aiming to boost downtown housing density after the move.
