Bill to tighten penalties for harming bald eagles

South Carolina lawmaker Chip Limehouse introduced a bill to stiffen penalties for harming bald eagles. Convicted killers face hunting-privilege loss for 15 years, up to one year in jail and a 500 dollar fine. those molesting or attempting to kill an eagle could not hunt for five years. The bill follows a bald eagle shot near Lake Hartwell, believed to be by a waterfowl hunter. The measure would raise state penalties to a 100 to 500 dollar fine and 30 days to one year in prison, aligning with stronger deterrence while federal penalties remain higher.
