State to decide whether to kill New Orleans casino
Harrah's New Orleans, once pitched as a $1 billion revenue generator, faces potential closure within months unless the Legislature cuts its tax burden and allows an adjoining hotel. The project has ballooned in cost to about $1.1 billion with $500 million debt, amid political wrangling and bankruptcy plans. Uncertain state aid and city rent terms complicate a rescue, with a possible bankruptcy reorganization steering future ownership.

Carillon bells restored in Philadelphia church ready to ring
The country’s second oldest carillon in the Church of the Holy Trinity on Walnut Street near Rittenhouse Square is restored and could ring as early as Christmas Eve. The 25 Belgian bells, weighing 58 pounds to 2 tons, were cleaned in Cincinnati and reinstalled after a $10,000 donation by Joseph E. Temple. The carillon will be playable manually and electronically with a computerized pre program option and ring at midday and on special occasions.
