Wind gusts above 35 mph toppled trees onto power lines and homes in Belvedere and South Africa causing roof damage to a Starving Marvin pump island canopies and other structures. Emergency crews worked to tarp roofs and clear lines with no injuries reported.

Fire at Rokeby Stable Blamed on Electric Switch
A Rokeby Stable fire in Aiken is linked to a short in an electric switch. Three horses died, but three were saved as 50 firefighters battled the blaze at 10:30 p.m. on Audubon Drive. Trainer Mack Miller said he was asleep when the fire started and an employee warned responders.

Aiken County Board Members Set Meeting On Scheduling Policy
The Aiken County Board of Education meets at 7 30 tonight at the Education Center 843 Edgefield Ave NW to discuss policy changes. High school students grades 9 12 must take at least five courses per semester excluding study hall and lunch with college courses during school hours counting toward load but not high school credits. Eighth graders may earn Algebra I and English I credits only while other accelerated work in eighth grade not credit. Seniors only may leave early. others stay in class all day. Notes say these were adopted in April and are not part of the main scheduling policy.

Aiken Council Eyes 135000 Etherredge Center Aid
The Aiken City Council will consider a 135000 appropriation tonight to help build the Etherredge Center at USC Aiken. The proposal accompanies a 270000 county contribution. Also on the agenda is a year end audit report and a planned 2 hike in out of city recreation fees.

Four Die as Truck Bomb Blasts U.S. Embassy in Kuwait
A dump truck bomb shattered the U S Embassy gates in Kuwait City killing four people and injuring about 40 others. The Islamic Jihad group claimed responsibility in a call to Agence France Presse. No Americans were killed or seriously hurt.
