MOX Funding Hinge: Appropriators Weigh Next Steps
The Savannah River Site MOX project faces a critical funding decision as Congress weighs short term or long term appropriations. House appropriators proposed 345 million for construction, keeping MOX moving toward completion, while tying it to broader spending bills. The project, 63 percent done and employing about 1,400, plays a role in the nonproliferation agreement with Russia to dispose of 34 metric tons of weapons-grade plutonium.
