Mexican exchange student changes stereotypes at Claflin College
Ramon Rivera a 22 year old Mexican exchange student from CELUES arrived at Claflin University in Orangeburg in August and faced stereotypes about the South. He learned English quickly, helped others learn Spanish, and sought to counter negative images of Mexico by sharing festivals and safe beautiful places. Rivera plans to study in the United States and hopes his sister will follow, while leaving with fond memories of a second family.
