Secret Santa brings Christmas happiness

Meredith, newly divorced with two young children, seeks work and Christmas gifts. Secret Santa, a volunteer program run from South Aiken Presbyterian Church, matches sponsors with children in Aiken County. This year over 1,200 children are served, but more than 250 still seek sponsors.

Chemistry program approved boosts for Aiken District

The board of education approved an NSF aided chemistry education project for Aiken County high schools. Pilot sites at Aiken High and Ridge Spring Monetta High will develop laboratories and technology with USC Aiken and Aiken Technical College. Budget options run 1997 to 2001 with about 2.81 million dollars, and the district may exit participation if goals fail. The board also authorized action on a North Augusta development zone and re elected Dr John Bradley as chairman and Kay Chriswell as vice chair.
