Courting Dulcimer Couples Share Music In Appalachian Tradition
In the Appalachian Mountains a courting dulcimer allows lovers to be near yet apart as music plays. Rogers Magee and his wife Josephine will perform Christmas carols on multiple dulcimers Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. at Hopeland Gardens Dollhouse, an event by the Aiken Garden Club Council. The couple, now dulcimer shop operators and workshop leaders, recounts their early interest in the instrument from Blowing Rock North Carolina and ongoing teaching across several colleges and universities.
