Village at Whiskey opens in Aiken with major tenants planned
Aiken expects a new 44,000 square foot Village at Whiskey shopping center on an eight acre site at Whiskey and Pine Log Roads just south of Heritage Square. Major tenants Winn Dixie Eckerd Drugs and Pic N Pay will relocate to the center by September with space reserved for other merchants. Polly's Place gourmet shop and deli opens Monday at 212 Park Ave SE offering brie pita croissants baklava and more with daily light lunches.

Boiler Explodes at Aiken High School
A boiler beside the Aiken High School gymnasium exploded around 11 30 a m due to delayed ignition from fuel buildup in the boiler bottom. Sgt Larry Lowe of the Aiken Public Safety Department said the blast was loud and vibration was felt. Health Instructor Tommy Warrick described a snowy appearance outside and mass black smoke pouring from the boiler room window with other instructor Mike Mitchell corroborating the scene.

The Jaycee Shopping Tour aims for 3000 and has raised about 1500. the Valley Empty Stocking Fund has 3074.93 and supports families, children and seniors.
