Sarah Ruth Sykes 71 of Aiken died Thursday November 30 2017 at Anchor Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Huntington New York she earned a masters in special education from the University of South Carolina taught in Aiken County Public Schools and served in First Presbyterian Church and local choral groups. Survivors include sister Virginia Free man Spokane Washington brother Lowell Beach Sykes Lynchburg Virginia. A memorial service is planned Saturday December 9 at 11 in First Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow. Memorials may go to First Presbyterian Church 224 Barnwell Ave NW Aiken SC 29801. Shellhouse Rivers Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
George Albert Huff a longtime Boise resident and former chemist with the AEC and Parson Company died November 27, 2017 in Boise. He served in World War II, married Gretta Brossard in 1946, and is survived by three children ten grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. Funeral services were set for December 9 at Park Center Ward LDS Chapel. Interment at Pioneer Cemetery.
James Eugene Geno Withrow 80 of Gloverville died November 30 2017 surrounded by family. He was a U S Air Force veteran and a former Owens Corning Fiberglas quality control inspector. A federal judge allows defense experts to testify about disputed audio and video recordings in the Slager case. Expert testimony claims Walter Scott fought Slager before the deadly shooting and that Scott said a profane phrase during the confrontation. Prosecutors argue recordings are inconclusive while Slager faces potential life in prison with possible federal sentence guidance of 10 to 13 years.
