Aiken to Add 27 Percent Local Service Charge on Bills
Aiken residents will see a pro rated 1980 business license expense on December bills. The city council approved a 3 percent local service and installation license fee, replacing a 1 percent license and 2 percent franchise fee. The tariff passes excess to customers. December bills add about 3.24 dollars for a 12 dollar local service. The change follows a 1979 ordinance and ongoing court litigation over the franchise fee.
