Grocery bill up almost 2 percent in November survey

An Associated Press market basket survey shows grocery bills rose about 2 percent in November with eggs and milk climbing in many cities while coffee provided a rare drop. The overall December compared to November up 2.4 percent across 13 cities, with October up 0.4 percent.

South Carolina Treasurer Backs 7 Percent Budget Cut

In Aiken the state treasurer Grady L. Patterson Jr said a 7 percent reduction in expenditures across agencies is needed to balance the current fiscal year budget. The $41 million shortfall could be closed by July 1 if all agencies cut costs, with no state employee pay raise for 1981. He noted alternatives weighed by the Budget and Control Board and urged restraint on spending.
