MADD launches its red ribbon campaign to curb alcohol related crashes this holiday season. In 2002 South Carolina saw 592 alcohol related roadway deaths per state DPS data via MADD. Local efforts with police tie ribbons on patrol cars to urge drivers to hand over keys if drinking.
Police seek a white male in his early 20s described as clean cut with brown hair who armed with a weapon, took the cash register at the Richland Avenue Huddle House just after 3 15 a m and fled in a dark newer pickup. The register damage is estimated at 300 dollars. Authorities urge tips to 642 7620.
The Aiken Community Band performs its annual holiday concert at 8 p.m. in the Etherredge Center, University of South Carolina Aiken. The program includes Sleigh Ride A Christmas Festival Vaughan Williams Christmas and Christmas Intrada by Dr Alfred Reed. The show runs just over an hour.

Kathy Nelson leads Secret Santa of Aiken County at South Aiken Presbyterian Church, helping underprivileged children with three toy options under $30 each. With 1,055 applicants and 450 still seeking sponsors, volunteers and sponsors are urged to act by December 15. North Augusta City Council unanimously approves third and final reading to rezone 24 acres on Walnut Lane near U S 25 from C 3 to PD. The Grey Stone development by Nordahl will add 154 one story townhomes in four unit blocks with two bed and three bed designs, 25 percent with garages, plus a Walnut Lane Greeneway extension and four phased development with city plot reviews.
