Downtown Christmas Tree Lights Up Aiken With New Design
The Aiken Christmas tree lighting Friday begins at 7 p.m. in front of Banker's Trust with remarks by Mike Hosang. The First Baptist Church youth choir performs as Santa’s helpers hand out candy before Santa arrives by horse and carriage. The 16 to 20 foot wooden pyramid tree is a joint project of the Aiken Chamber of Commerce and the Aiken Jaycees coordinated by Susan Burkhart. Decorations from Wal-Mart and K‑Mart, cedar from Palmetto Nursery, cedar work by Jaycees, and city crews aid in height access.
