Bridgestone/Firestone to Build Major Tire Plant in Aiken South Carolina

Governor Beasley announces a 1.5 million square foot Bridgestone/Firestone tire plant to be located near Sage Mill Industrial Park between Bettis Academy and Vaucluse roads. The venture aims to capture 20 percent of the world tire market by 2000 and will employ about 800 at full operation, with initial hiring around 300 locals and a few experienced staff from elsewhere.
