Aiken County high schools posted a countywide SAT average of 979, below the national 1016 but above the state 953. Local 827 students studied, 177 graduates took extra courses lifting their average to 1083. School officials urged continued effort and regular attendance.
Gov Beasley and BFSC leaders Masatoshi Ono and Kenji Shibata announced plans to construct a 1.5 million square foot tire plant in Aiken County SC, with construction to begin this year. They touted South Carolina as the ideal location and hinted at creating numerous jobs amid a press conference.
Bridgestone announces a $435 million plant in Aiken County as part of a push to reach 20 percent of the world tire market by 2000. The facility will be the company’s 17th worldwide and ninth in the United States, with over 1,000 sites evaluated before selecting Aiken. The investment is the county’s largest single international project and a major boost in jobs.
