State Lost 2,000 Textile Jobs In 70
An employment specialist says more than 2,000 textile jobs were lost in South Carolina during 1970. William B. Rickey of the Employment Security Commission cites a drop from 151,456 to 149,334 covered unemployment claims and notes that the downturn reflects economic slowdown and foreign competition. Data from about 20,000 employers show 620,000 workers covered earned $3.6 billion, with roughly $2 billion in manufacturing including textiles.
