Former captain Lewellen linked to My Lai trials tapes
Lewellen now works in Temple Texas with the Central Texas Councils of Government. He commanded Lt William Calley Jr at Fort Benning when Calley led one of the My Lai platoons and was convicted of killing 22 civilians. Calley's life sentence was later reduced to 20 years. Other veterans were tried and acquitted. Medina's trial continued at Fort McPherson. Lewellen said he played the tapes for the Peers board and pretrial investigations, though the recordings have not yet been heard by the My Lai juries.
