Survivors rescued after days buried in Turkey quake

In the Izmit and Dinarcik areas seven survivors were pulled from rubble after four hot days. An 11 year old girl Oznu r Cengiz was rescued by a French team while an Israeli girl Shirin Franko, 10, was found with her twin brother dead earlier. The death toll rose past 12,000 as hundreds more were recovered and foreign teams began departing.

Graham Holds North Augusta Town Meeting

About 125 residents mostly over 60 packed the North Augusta Community Center to question Rep. Lindsey Graham on Social Security Medicare and retirement plans. He tied topics to the budget with warnings about surplus and noted $2 trillion of the surplus is Social Security money. He discussed the New Savannah lock and dam, pledging talks with local officials to gauge impact on the riverfront and water supply.

Young and old shine at Cumbee Sun Run in Aiken

The sixth annual Cumbee Center Aiken Sun Run drew participants from toddlers to teens at Virginia Acres City Park. A 21 month old crossed the mile in 19 minutes 20 seconds before exiting with a ribbon. The 5K winner in the women’s division was 12 year old Diana Willard with 19 minutes 52 seconds, while the overall winner was 18 year old Scott Wietecha of Columbia.
