Trial set for Sept. 11 in New South Life case
A state circuit judge ruled actuary Louis J. Glaser too ill to stand trial in the New South Life Insurance Co. case. Glaser, 60, of Clearwater Florida, was linked to a policy reserves shortfall of 9 million dollars. Co-defendants include former Columbia mayor Lester L. Bates and his son Lester L. Bates Jr. Solicitor John Foard said Glaser’s return would not be pressed.

High School Diploma Exam Scheduled in Aiken This Month
An examination for the equivalent of a high school diploma will be offered to South Carolinians in Aiken this month. The deadline for applications with a $10 fee is Wednesday for the August 26 test.
