FBI agents killed one alleged bank robber and captured an accomplice at Kennedy Airport as they prepared to board a private jet. Seven hostages held for over 14 hours were unharmed after the raid following a $29,000 Brooklyn Chase Manhattan bank robbery.
In Que Son Valley heavy fighting was reported as South Vietnamese infantry and Rangers faced three North Vietnamese battalions estimated at 900 troops. Saigon said 108 NVA were killed with 24 weapons captured. South Vietnamese losses were one dead and 28 wounded. North Vietnamese rockets wounded 11 civilians in Da Nang and damaged five houses, while Marble Mountain air facility suffered twelve mortar hits with no U.S. or South Vietnamese casualties.

A July 22 wind or tornado collapsed a 25,000 square foot broiler house trapping 25,000 chicks. the squad helped save over 24,000 chicks.
Fourteen GOP candidates converged at the New Ellenton Civic Center for a rally. Roy Ethridge of Anderson criticized incumbent Dorn and questioned unemployment while others touted district seniority and closeness to voters. Three state Senate hopefuls spoke as four DC House contenders outlined views.
Rep Julian Dunbar Republican candidate for Aiken County sheriff unveiled his platform at the New Ellenton Civic Center amid a 14 candidate forum. He called for mandatory four year police experience and 40 hour annual in service training with instructors from FBI SLED Civil Defense and first aid. He favored a 24 hour patrol in suburban areas to curb breaking and entering and loitering.
