DMV Upgrade Causes Long Waits Amid System Switch

DMV officials admit $40 million upgrade begun earlier this month has improved some problems but wait times remain long. Burgis says the division isn’t close to 20 minute waits, even as customers accept it as a target. The change, begun three years ago with CACI Inc, moved from old to new systems in phases to avoid costly simultaneous operation. Authorities avoid penalties for expired licenses as deputies use their best judgment.

Youth home may strain school district in Belclear area

Burnet Town officials and Belclear residents urged the South Carolina Department of Social Services to deny Emerald Youth Services a license to operate a group home near Belclear Subdivision. Assistant Superintendent Troy Nobles warned that housing 50 emotionally disabled youths ages 13 to 21 in one attendance area would overload the district and impose costly staffing and educational needs. School officials note 231 special needs students are already served locally, and federal funding may not cover additional placements.
