Randy W. Shaw, former mayor of New Ellenton, was arrested by SLED agents on embezzlement charges connected to sewer funds. He was released on a $20,000 personal recognizance bond after a bond hearing. The alleged theft involved $18,881.74 from the town sewer account to partly pay for an airplane. Shaw previously faced false notarization charges in March and resigned after pleading guilty.
A Wichita abortion doctor, George Tiller, was wounded outside his clinic by a female assailant seen distributing antiabortion literature. The suspect, Rachelle Shannon, 37, was arrested in Oklahoma City after authorities traced a rental car linked to the escape.
Police traced a car used in an attack on Dr. George Tiller to a rental agency after witnesses described a woman at a clinic protest. Tiller, 52, escaped injury with minor arm wounds and was treated and released. The suspect had prior anti abortion activity links and warrants for trespassing at clinics in San Francisco and Milwaukee. Witnesses saw the attacker at a Thursday demonstration outside the Women s Health Care Services Clinic.
