Democrats push John Lewis Voting Rights Act update
House Democrats unveil H R 4 to restore a modernized formula for federal review of voting changes. Rep Terri Sewell introduces the bill at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, urging action as states pass stricter voting laws. If enacted it would require DOJ approval for changes in discriminating jurisdictions and counter the Supreme Court ruling this summer. The measure faces GOP opposition in the Senate and ongoing filibuster debates.
