First woman Cadet Faulkner stays in infirmary at Citadel

Under a broiling sun AP reports Shannon Faulkner, the first woman cadet in The Citadel’s 152 year history, remains in the infirmary recovering from heat exposure after day one of cadet training. A college spokesman said she is to be released today.

Boan to Switch to Republican Party in Lancaster

State Rep. Billy Boan of Death Springs plans to announce Thursday in Lancaster with Gov. Beasley and House Speaker Wilkins. He said he faced a choice of being a player or not and chose to switch parties. In Columbia, condemned killer Sylvester Adams requests clemency be denied as Beasley supports death penalty and Adams awaits lethal injection on Friday morning after 15 years on death row for the 1979 killing of a 16 year old neighbor.

Board Calls for Tax Chief's Dismissal Over Assessments

Sarron told the council he came to speak for those without a voice and noted appeals are available though many property owners struggle. The council blocked a Ferrara plan to reevaluate large-appraisal increases and instead passed McKenzie’s amendment to refer the issue to Gov Beasley and the General Assembly for possible state action to extend appeals deadlines and offer counties new options to fix appraisal problems.
