Bond OK Granted For Home In Aiken

Aiken City Council unanimously approved a $6.5 million health facility revenue bond for Trinity Lutheran Home to be issued by the S C Jobs Economic Development Authority. The city, not obligated for repayment, will review three story plans Sept. 11 and Sept. 5 planning commission session. The project includes joint use of parking to ease police safety concerns during court sessions.

Aiken council considers pay raise and elder care housing plan

The council discussed a ground floor independent living block with 21 units and two 12 bed assisted living wings per floor totaling 48 beds with a 12 bed Alzheimer unit on the second floor. In other business the council voted itself a pay raise effective after the November 7 election and approved a pilot for underground utilities. The raise passed 4 to 2 with Beverly Clyburn and Skipper Perry opposing. The mayor’s salary would rise from 2400 to 4000 and council members from 1200 to 2000. health coverage costs and future alignment with city employee pay were cited as reasons.
