Revered Lamar Burkes of Aiken died August 3 at age unknown. A retired Southern Baptist minister and barber, he led Bethel Baptist Church in Leake County for over 45 years and owned Burkes Barbershop in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Visitation at Shellhouse Rivers Funeral Home August 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial at Cornerstone Baptist Church August 19 and another at Wilcox Funeral Home September 1 will follow with final interment at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Leake County. Donations may go to Bethel Cemetery Fund.
