Falsified Records Handled After SRS FB Line Incident
Five Westinghouse Savannah River Company workers at the Savannah River Site were disciplined after they falsified records following an July incident in the FB Line. Three employees received radiation doses of 700, 400, and 200 millirems. Pedde said the acts show a lack of truthfulness in post-event reviews and threaten safety.

Man uses knife and straw to save diner from choking
Ragary Zidan of Aiken performed a tracheotomy with a knife and straw to clear a friend's airway at West Side Bowery restaurant Tuesday night. The unnamed choking victim was hospitalized at Aiken Regional Medical Centers awaiting bronchial removal of lodged food.

Graduation requirements tighten as students face tougher path
Aiken High School Principal Joe Padget notes graduation standards now demand more units and specific coursework. Students must complete English four units, math four, science three, U.S. history and constitution one, economics 0.5, government 0.5, social studies one, physical education or JR ROTC one, computer science one, foreign language or career tech one, and seven electives. Sophomores start a stricter exit exam in 2004, with graduation contingent on passing in 2006.
