Bus Schedules To Be Printed For Aiken County Areas

The Aiken Standard will publish school bus routes for all 25 000 students starting with Area 1 and Pinecrest on Monday. Areas 2 3 and 4 follow on Tuesday and Area 5 on Wednesday. Each bus route lists streets and stops.

Preserve Protects Endangered Storks on Buzzards Island

Charleston report says a new state preserve near Mount Pleasant will shield a prehistoric shell ring, rare plants, and endangered wood storks. Buzzards Island, three quarters of an acre valued at 5000 dollars, was donated by East Cooper Golf Co. to South Carolina Natural Resources, under a pact with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to safeguard roosting sites for storks.

Motorist Strikes Kills Black Bear in Pickens County

A black bear cub about 50 pounds died after being struck by a car on State Highway 11 in northern Pickens County. Wildlife officer Mack Erwin called it an unfortunate yearly occurrence and noted the cub was likely born in January or February amid a recent acorn shortage that drives bears to forage roadside.
