The rider ordering U.S. forces out of Indochina headed for a House vote with leaders on both sides predicting a narrow rejection. Supporters linked the vote to a broader military foreign aid bill and a prisoner release with a limited cease-fire as possible concessions.

Friends of the Boatwright family on Seiglers Trail Park near Aiken have started a fund to cover mounting hospital expenses after a highway 1 by pass crash killed four year old Melissa Ann Missy Boatwright and left David Boatwright in serious condition. Funeral services for Melissa were held today. Contributions may be made to The Boatwright Family Fund care of Bankers Trust South Aiken Mitchell Shopping Center Branch. An initial $50 was collected by Lee's Store employees.
Aiken County paramedics answered 202 calls in July averaging 9.85 patients daily. The Paramed report cites $4,843 in calls and $1,778.70 receipts, with $3,064.30 receivables, much from Medicare. Daily gross averaged $230, about $25 per call, including 36 vehicle accident calls.
A 23 year old self described French native played topless at a Madison tennis court prompting two policewomen to intervene. She argued she saw no issue with stripping to keep cool while playing doubles with three men. She was released with a warning that a rematch would lead to arrest.
USC officials urged a state legislative committee to approve a second medical school in Columbia arguing graduates could be produced in five to six years due to curriculum changes. Dr. W N Adams Smith said the plan would lower costs, expand minority and women access, and attract middle income families. He rejected redistributing rural doctors as feasible, noting urban citizens already struggle to find doctors.
Angus Walker Collins, an 87 year old peach stand operator outside Aiken on Highway 19, describes a life split between farming and travel. Born in 1885 on a nearby farm, he recounts seven living children and 22 grandchildren, with a great grandchild aged 15, noting his wife’s death six years ago.
