Willson wins Henri Seibert Award for aquatic snake study
Savannah River Ecology Laboratory researcher Dr. J D Willson earned the Henri Seibert Award at the 2009 Joint Meetings of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists in Portland. His presentation detailed a year long mark recapture study of banded water snakes and black swamp snakes in a large fishless wetland at the Savannah River Site, documenting over 3 000 captures of about 1 000 snakes and offering density estimates and factors biasing counts. Willson, with a doctorate from the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology and a Davidson College biology background, collaborates on multiple aquatic snake projects and Burmese pythons, with SREL at the Savannah River Site in Aiken supported by diverse funding.
