Investigators identify Danny Lee Gant as the suspect in the Regions Bank robbery in Clearwater on a Friday morning. Gant, 46, faces warrants for entering a bank with intent to steal, theft and bank fraud. No injuries reported.
The Warrenville IGA store on Highway 421 has new ownership but retains staff and daily operations. Betty Barrett says customer experience remains the same despite the name change from Gurleys to Warrenville IGA and notes the Gurley family could not be reached for comment. IGA, founded in 1926, now has about 4 000 stores in over 40 countries with many major brand partners.
McDonald’s owner Tom Powers will distribute pamphlets in Aiken County stores to promote SPCA and county voucher programs for affordable spaying and neutering. The effort follows a SPCA meeting with Powers and aims to reduce unwanted pet populations with outreach at busy Richland Avenue Whiskey Road and York Street locations.
The Heavy Water Components Test Reactor at Savannah River Site, known as Hector, will be decommissioned with Recovery Act funding. Plans include removing the vessel and generators, demolishing the 75 foot dome, grouting the structure, and placing a concrete cover by September 2011.
