Student Test Scores Rise Across South Carolina Districts

State Board of Education reports dramatic increases in standardized test results. In fourth grade reading 52 percent and language 53 percent at or above national norms in Aiken County, with similar gains in math. Seventh to tenth grade scores also climbed nationwide and statewide. Districts statewide show improvement across reading language math and science as districts align curricula with test content.

Aiken County Court to Convene Monday for Several Cases

Aiken County General Sessions Court will convene Monday at 10 am at the Aiken County Courthouse. About 50 cases are expected to be settled, including a criminal sexual conduct case involving a young girl. Richard Mason, indicted while under treatment in the State Hospital, faces additional dockets of two housebreakings one burglary and one armed robbery. Pianist Josef Patchen appears Monday at 7 pm in Hopeland Gardens for a Summer Concert Series by the Aiken Recreation Department. Patchen will perform Mozart and Chopin, with rain backup at South Aiken High.
