The United States posted a 6.8 percent unemployment rate for July, down 0.2 points from June. About 240,000 fewer people were unemployed, with total jobless falling to roughly 8.5 million. Labor force changes and separate payroll data explain the drop amid a weak economic backdrop.

The vice president of All Maxxon, Dangerfield, said he will give it some sad consideration. He has chaired the aes Piacksy Commies for several years and served as vice president of governmental affairs for the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce. He sits on the College of Charleston board.
Aiken city leaders and officials pay tribute to Mayor H Odell Weeks as he nears retirement. Chief Busbee calls him a fixture of support and strength, noting his two full time jobs and deep family ties. Finance director Anita Lilly praises his stability and care for council and staff. Parks chief Terry Rhinehart lauds his dedication, and Roger LeDue recalls his city day to day focus.
