The U S Energy Department says it will require 500 million dollars and over 100 extra safety staff in three years to fix weaknesses at Savannah River Plant reactors near Aiken South Carolina The National Academy of Sciences study faulted lax oversight and reliance on contractor Du Pont warning the reactors are poorly maintained and not well understood in a severe accident context
