At University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor a 40 year old nurse died and three others fell ill from hepatitis B in the thoracic surgery unit. All 50 nurses in the unit are being screened after cases traced to July 3 and July 24.
In San Francisco a brutal anti gay attack ends in death. John D O Connell aged 40 died from brain injuries after four youths aged 17 to 20 assaulted him near Polk Street. Andrew Woodward 35 a friend described the incident as unprovoked and the assailants fled.
