North Augusta Council ends four years of zoning suit

The North Augusta City Council unanimously decided not to appeal a judge’s ruling in a 1975 civil suit over a 43 acre tract. Mayor Henry R. McKenney Jr. said accepting the decision best moves the city forward. The meeting also approved rezoning on Knox Avenue and welcomed two new zoning board members.

Questionable legality of North Augusta executive session debated

The North Augusta City Council plans caricatures of each member to grace a giant get well card for Councilman Tom Greene who is in the hospital after rocks shattered his windshield last week. Eddie Guy drew the sketches as William Gray quipped about Greene’s many characters.

Southern Bell seeks 74 million rate hike in South Carolina

Aiken area Southern Bell official Luther Rigby says the company faces a critical financial state and would worsen if a 74 million rate increase is denied. He notes return on the state below six percent and says service impact would appear in future months. The company has cut overtime, halted new vehicle purchases, and closed some employment offices. A 35 cent residential hike for eight towns is proposed with a 2.80 dollar statewide increase pending PSC approval.
